Rectus diastasis
Minimally invasive repair
Small-access surgery to reconstruct the midline, repair associated hernias and restore abdominal wall function.
Surgical techniques
- Laparoscopic or robotic plication of the rectus muscles
- peTEP (pre-aponeurotic endoscopic repair) for diastasis with or without hernia
- miSAR® / p-miSAR® for midline reconstruction and associated defects
- Hybrid approach with plastic surgery when excess skin or laxity is present
Indications
- Symptomatic rectus diastasis with functional limitation
- Diastasis associated with umbilical or epigastric hernia
- Recurrence after previous repair
- Request for midline reconstruction with minimal scarring
Assessment
The preoperative assessment includes clinical examination, dynamic ultrasound and, in selected cases, a CT scan to define the extent of diastasis, the presence of hernias and the best surgical plane.
Recovery
Early walking is encouraged. Abdominal-pelvic rehabilitation is usually started from the second month to restore core function, breathing and pelvic floor coordination.
