Rectus diastasis

Postoperative rehabilitation

A structured recovery programme to restore abdominal wall function, breathing, pelvic floor coordination and a safe return to activity.

Rehabilitation phases

  • Early mobilisation and walking from the first days after surgery
  • Breathing and gentle core activation from the second month
  • Progressive strengthening of the abdominal wall and pelvic floor
  • Return to sport and demanding activities under professional guidance

Why it matters

After diastasis repair, the abdominal wall needs to relearn how to generate pressure and support the spine and pelvis. Rehabilitation protects the repair, reduces discomfort and improves long-term function.

We work with specialist physiotherapists to provide personalised, surgeon-guided rehabilitation plans.

Pelvic floor integration

Because the abdominal wall and pelvic floor work together, rehabilitation also addresses pelvic floor function, urinary symptoms and pressure control.

Return to sport

Running, weightlifting and high-impact activities are reintroduced gradually. The exact timing depends on the surgical technique and the individual healing response.
